John G. Smith - Legal Affairs
John Smith, with a Cambridge, England law degree and licensed to practice law in British Columbia, Canada, practiced corporate and commercial law in Western Canada for more than 30 years, with a specialization in entertainment and communications law. He was a principal, co-owner, and corporate counsel of The Beacon Group of Companies that managed the production, marketing, distribution and financing of motion pictures, studio projects and entertainment software. The Beacon Group was involved in raising over $150 million (CDN) for production services to US production companies in Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of British Columbia; and was previously a governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation and a director of the BC Motion Picture Foundation, as well as a variety of performing arts organizations. John has been a member of the Advisory Board for Birch Tree since its inception and oversees Birch Tree's legal affairs.
